The stock PT has a great look,
with a cute rake, that has great appeal.
Lowering it brings out the retro quality of
the design even more. It also lowers the
center of gravity, which can improve the PT's
handling balance. But all springs and
suspension systems are not equal.
An aftermarket spring needs
to be carefully engineered for its
application. It must support the vehicle's
weight and dynamics as well as the stock
spring throughout the entire dynamic range of
the vehicle's suspension. Ideally, it will
improve on the stock springs performance
characteristics.
The old method of "cutting"
coils from a stock spring to lower a vehicle
reduces the suspension's movement range and
reduces the spring's weight bearing ability.
Springs that are wound tighter to be shorter,
also reduce the movement range before the
coils are apt to touch each other.
A properly designed
progressive-rate spring can lower the vehicle,
provide a comfortable ride quality during
smaller suspension movement, while at the same
time becoming progressively stiffer as the
spring is compressed, providing more control
during large suspension movement.
The result — better ride
quality, better control, flatter cornering,
less dive on braking, as well as the good
looks from a "lowered" PT!
PT-Tuning selected racing and
OEM spring producer HyperCo to engineer and
manufacture our
BTG™ line of progressive rate performance
springs. Our other springs,
Euro Blue Line, are of the same quality,
but ride quality is balanced more for street
cruising.
